Which Catalan cities to discover for a day trip?

Catalonia, the most visited region in Spain with nearly 20 million visitors in 2024, is full of treasures to discover.

Barcelona, cultural capital of Catalonia

From the Pyrénées-Orientales, Barcelona is an unmissable excursion. The Sagrada Familia, a masterpiece of art and architecture by Antoni Gaudí, welcomes millions of visitors each year. Continue your discovery at Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before strolling through the historic center and the narrow streets of the Barri Gòtic, up to the imposing Santa Eulalia Cathedral.

Girona, medieval charm and living heritage

Closer to the border, the city of Girona offers a peaceful and authentic alternative. Its Jewish quarter, the Call Jueu, is one of the best preserved in Europe. Stroll through the old town, admire the Santa Maria Cathedral and the colorful houses lining the Onyar river. One of the emblematic bridges, designed by Gustave Eiffel, creates a surprising architectural link between France and Spain.

Museums and interactive discoveries

Far from traditional museums, the CosmoCaixa offers a fun and educational approach to science. To further pique curiosity, head to the Barcelona Aquarium: its transparent tunnel, populated by sharks and tropical fish, remains an unforgettable memory for the whole family.

Nature and adventure in the heart of the city

For a bit of activity, head to the Barcelona Bosc Urbà, an adventure park located in the heart of the city. Zip lines and suspended courses guarantee a truly energetic shared experience. Finally, the Parc d’Horta, famous for its vegetal labyrinth, invites you to a poetic stroll between nature and heritage. It is Barcelona's oldest historic garden, perfect for a moment of family relaxation.
